Altmark, idag Stary Targ, Poland

Boken Encyclopedia of Jewish Life Before and During the Holocaust har inget

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People har en sida med register på begravda på judiska kyrkogården.

(Rabbinat Elbing 1938)”. 21 gräber is in die Urkunde eingefurt.

Altmark, today Stary Targ, Poland

See Stuhm, Altmark, Nikolaiken and Christburg history. Their history belongs together.

Centrum Judaicum Berlin Archiv did NOT have any documents from this town.

The Central Archives for the History of the Jewish People have a page with register of buried people in the Jewish cemetery. The same page does the Jewish museum in Frankfurt have. And also the same as the mormon have. But the mormon film is very difficult to read.

The book Encyclopedia of Jewish Life Before and During the Holocaust has nothing

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

According to my Gerhard Herzog, Altmark, kreis Stuhm (today Stary Targ, Poland) was the centre for the Jewish life before around 1812. Stuhm became centre first around 1812, when Stuhm became administrative centre for the whole region. There was also a Jewish cemetery in Altmark where the Jews were buried before Stuhm got a cemetery. Gerhard Herzog mother was a Seeliger. According to Gerhard the Seeligers were buried in Altmark since 16th century. Before the war my friend visited the Jewish cemeteray in Altmark and have self seen the graves with the Seeligers. You could see the names good and the graves were in good condition. The cemeteray shall have been in Neumark and not in Altmark according to Gerhard.

Altmark Jewish cemetery source, FHL 1184377 item 1 and Jewish museum in Frankfurt PSR-A001:

(Rabbinat Elbing 1938)”. 21 gräber is in die Urkunde eingefurt.

“Little cemetery, surrounded by a not full fence of plank. A number of hills without stones, other with stones are very well kept. (Rabbinat Elbing 1938)” 21 graves are in the source.

The earliest known Jewish community was 19th century. Effecting the Jewish community was the Judenedikt of 1812. Orthodox and Progressive/Reform Jews used the unlandmarked Jewish cemetery. The isolated suburban flat land has no sign, wall, fence, or gate. Reached by turning directly off a public road, access is open to all. The size of the cemetery before W.W.II was 0.1 hectares; it is the same size now. No gravestones or known mass graves are visible. A private individual owns site used for agriculture. Properties adjacent are agricultural. Local residents rarely visit. The cemetery was vandalized during W.W.II, but not in the last ten years. No maintenance or structures. The cemetery was liquidated and is now a field with crops.
